ASL interpreters
We've created a map to help connect interpreters with campaign events and people who need interpreters. If you're an interpreter seeking paid work with the campaign, contact the campaign directly.
There are also many smaller community-based groups and events supporting Bernie around the country that have no funds for interpreters, which shuts out local deaf folks.
We recognize and respect the value of interpreting services, so we're not asking you to volunteer time for these UNLESS you are passionately progressive and would enjoy the company of like-minded people.

New to working with interpreters?
No problem.
Here's what to do.

Request interpreters 2 days (48 hours) in advance.
If it is certain that interpreters will be used during the program, include the pictorial symbol above in promotional and registration materials. This will alert individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing that this service will be provided.
Communicate with event staff to ensure deaf attendees can sit near interpreter, with an unobstructed view of the stage/speaker to provide simultaneous viewing of message and message provider. Ensure the interpreter is adequately lit.

An elevated platform (or stage) should be made available at an event and should optimally be placed against a solid wall. The stage should have sufficient space for an interpreter to perform their role, ideally, next to the lecturer.
The interpreter likely has experience and insight on how to best do their jobs. Work with them, they'll make your job easier.
Certified interpreters follow a professional code of conduct that stresses ethics and client confidentiality.
